What VHELP collects, why, and how to remove it. VHELP is an independent app built by VIT Chennai students — it isn't affiliated with VIT.
01
What we collect
- Your account. Your VIT student email, your name, and the profile details you add — phone number, whether you're a hosteller, your hostel block, and your avatar.
- Things you create. Food orders, repair requests, marketplace listings, lost & found posts (including their photos), carpool trips, mess reviews and support tickets.
- VTOP data, if you connect it. Your timetable, attendance, exam schedule, marks and grades.
- App diagnostics. A notification token so we can send you updates about your orders and requests, crash reports, basic usage analytics, and an app-integrity check that blocks tampered copies of the app.
02
Your VTOP password
Your VTOP password is encrypted and stored only on your phone, in the device keystore. It is never sent to VHELP's servers. The app uses it on your phone to fetch your academic data from VTOP, and only the results — timetable, attendance, marks — are synced to your account.
03
Who can see what
Some things are meant to be seen. Lost & found posts, marketplace listings and carpool trips — including the contact number you add to them — are visible to other VHELP users. Orders and repair requests are shared with the outlet or repair provider handling them. Everything else, including your academic data, is visible only to you.
04
Where it's stored
App data is stored in our database on Supabase. Sign-in, notifications, crash reports and analytics run on Google Firebase. We don't sell your personal data.
05
Deleting your data
- Disconnect VTOP from Account settings. This removes the saved VTOP login from your phone and deletes your synced attendance, timetable and marks.
- Delete your account from Account settings. This permanently deletes your profile, orders, support tickets, repair requests, marketplace listings, lost & found posts and mess reviews.
